Savannah TN
Savannah Tennessee
Hardin County is divided by the Tennessee River and Pickwick Lake. Hardin County provides
a beautiful and convenient setting for boating, skiing, fishing, golfing and many other recreational
activities. It is home to the pivotal Civil War Battle of Shiloh, nationally recognized museums,
historic districts, and a host of annual festivals. We're proud of our county and invite
you to come and visit us. We're one of the most popular recreational and retirement communities
in the United States.
Spring
In the spring wild flowers paint the picturesque hills and valleys of Hardin and McNairy
counties. The rich soils of our farming community makes this beautiful river valley the garden
spot of Tennessee.
Fall
The magnificent bright colors of the hill side trees gives you the feeling of being in the
Great Smoky Mountains.
Shopping
One of the largest, most modern Wal-Mart facilities was recently built in Savannah.
Caves
Carved out by the Tennessee River, caves are located in the Northern part of the county.
The Indians used these caves as dwellings. The Confederate soldiers used them during the
civil war to manufacture gun powder. Sulfur was found throughout the caves and was the main
ingredient in explosives during the war between the states.
Country star Daryl Worley, native son of Hardin County, hosts his annual Tennessee river
run in Pickwick in the month of September. This 3 day event consists
of a golf tournament, fishing tournament, 5 K run, motorcycle poker run, and his famous
country music concert. The concert features different music stars and legends each year. All
proceeds benefit the Daryl Worley Foundation Inc. serving the needs of Hardin and McNairy
counties, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, LeBonheur Children's Medical Center and Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation.
Shiloh National Military Park
Southwest of Savannah was the scene of the first large scale battle of the Civil War. On
April 6-7 1862, 110,000 Union and Confederate troops fought near the Tennessee River. The
Union victory was costly for both sides; one out of every five men were killed or wounded. More
information about Shiloh National Military Park.
Horse Riding
Got a horse? Escape to the great outdoors is easy in Hardin County. Put on hiking boots
or saddle up on a horse. Nature lovers find rewards in lush settings along the river.
